HELIX DESIGN INC [PRESENTATION SCRIPT]

[KARLA CARROLL]

Opening
This work of art will be outfitted with the latest in sustainable energy producing generators.  For the beacon of light it was keen to utilize today’s technology yet to stay current and to think ahead for tomorrows emerging technologies. To usher in the first skyscraper into the skyline of Stockholm Creating a masterpiece of architectural ingenuity and highly specialized engineering was tantamount.

Turbines
Savonius wind turbines are the first feature that most will notice first. Their low impact in the aesthetics of the building was important as most people wouldn’t want an imposing turbine obscuring the view of their city. Although in the past savonius turbines have had disadvantages being a VAWT or vertical axis wind turbine. it suffered from low efficiency. With emerging technologies and the advent of highly sophisticated Aeronautic Elastics the weight of the “blades”, the wind catching part of the turbines, have greatly decreased. in other words making them more efficient. Other problems in design limited most turbines include horizontal axis turbines to be turning rotors which in turn would crank a generator then producing electricity. This method has served great purpose but a tremendous amount of kinetic energy is being lost.  An emerging technology already implemented in power grids, locomotives and shipping yards, and even N.A.S.A, known as “Fly-Wheel” technology can store all kinetic energy and turn that into usable electricity, that can be stored if there is surplus or put out on the grid if in demand the greatest benefit though is the Fly-Wheels potential. Ultimately the turbines will create electricity continuously even at low wind speeds of even a few miles per hour being an ideal solution to what has been in the past a power hungry building.

Smart Grid
Smart grid technology computerizes and maintains building awareness.  Imagine a smart computer able to detect where energy is needed and to directly supply those demands. It’s now possible. With a smart building grid energy waste is a thing of the past only suppling electricity to areas is demand its is able to throttle the buildings total electrical consumption on a day by day basis.

Water Recycling
Water is a precious commodity around the globe and this building does its part by recycling rain. Located around the buildings site is natural water run off system that collects rain water and recycles it in the fountains and for irrigation.

Future
The building promise to the future is paramount. Nobody likes buying a new computer and then in two months if not less it becomes obsolete. The Beacon of light is embracing the future utilizing glass around the structure which hosts a myriad of possibilities. Such as nano-solar sprays that can turn existing glass into solar absorbing panels that will help aliviate more of the electric consumption. The gaps between the two towers also serve to host new more innovative designs for the future of Wind power, the list goes on.

Over all the Beacon of Light is just that, a beacon to all who aspire to innovation something that everyone wants to be a part of, learns from, and takes with them spreading Global awareness is the true potential of green energy interactivity and hospitality.
